Project Management Institute (PMI) is a global organization for project management professionals, providing a range of resources and certifications to support the profession. PMI’s globally recognized certification programs, like PMP and CAPM, demonstrate a commitment to project management excellence. The website is an essential resource for enhancing knowledge and skills in project management, offering valuable insights into best practices, industry trends, and practical tips for managing projects.

LinkedIn groups related to project management and instructional design provide a platform for professionals to connect, share experiences, and learn from others in their field. These groups offer a range of resources, including articles, webinars, and job postings, to help members stay up to date on industry trends and best practices. By joining these groups, professionals can collaborate on projects, seek feedback on work, and gain insights into new trends and emerging technologies. Some of the project management groups found on LinkedIn are PMI Project, Program and Portfolio Management Group and Project Manager Community – Best Group for Project Management.

Coursera and edX are online learning platforms offering courses and certifications related to project management and instructional design. They provide a flexible learning experience taught by industry experts and leading academics. The courses cover such topics as Agile methodologies, risk management, instructional design models, and creating engaging e-learning content. 1. Hi Jill,

I believe these resources you have provided should be on everyone’s “go-to” list for learning and understanding project management processes. I have learned a little more about project management by searching the PMI and LinkedIn websites for valuable knowledge. Additionally, I have searched through Coursera for UX design, project management, and, funny enough, instructional design to see where I wanted my next career path to be. In my opinion, project management and ID are similar in not being a black-and-white process but a kaleidoscope of many colors that need to change as technology and business practices improve in corporate and government environments.

Are these your go-to resources for learning more about project management or a skill you wanted to learn and use in your current position outside of project management and ID?

  2. Hey Jill,

This very informative post highlights three valuable resources for project managers. The Project Management Institute (PMI) seems like an excellent organization for project management professionals. LinkedIn groups, personal favorites, and online learning platforms like Coursera and edX are excellent resources for keeping up with industry trends and best practices.

What are some examples of topics covered in the courses offered on Coursera and edX related to project management and instructional design that you recommend for ID project managers beginners?

  3. Hi Jill,
Thank you for your post! The Project Management Institute website has been helpful during this course. I do not have formal experience with project management; thus access to a website with so many resources is appreciated. I heard of LinkedIn, but only as a job search site. I just realized via your post that it gives members access to different communities of professionals. Having access to others in the same field is especially helpful when starting a new career. The last two website you reviewed are new to me. I will be exploring Coursera and edX to see what courses they offer. Have you participated in any courses on these sites? If so, how do you rate your experience?
